Festa dei Morti (Day of the Dead)

The event

In Sicily the dead bring the presents, and on the night between 1 and 2 November children hunt for them around the house. On the tables: marzipan fruit, sugar puppets and «bones of the dead» biscuits; the fairground goes up at the Fiera del Mediterraneo, and the Pitrè museum shows the antique sugar puppets. It is a cheerful feast, not a sad one — the Palermo way of remembering those who are gone.
