The event

The great feast of the city's patron saint, and the day Palermo stops working. On the evening of the 14th the triumphal chariot comes down the Cassaro towards the sea, with the cry «Viva Palermo e Santa Rosalia» at the Quattro Canti and the Porta Felice, and the night ends with fireworks over the Foro Italico. The 15th is the religious day: the procession of the relics leaves from the Cathedral. It falls on 14 and 15 July every year; the hour-by-hour programme changes from edition to edition.
