The story
A fishing village turned into Palermo's beach, enclosed between Monte Pellegrino and Monte Gallo. Until the late 19th century the area was a malarial marsh: drainage, carried out by a Belgian company, led to the development of the seaside district and the building of the Art Nouveau bathing pavilion on stilts, the Charleston, opened in 1913 to a design by Rudolf Stualker.
