The story

Made in 1698 to a design by Paolo Amato and carved by Gioacchino Vitagliano, it originally stood in the Garraffo square near the Vucciria and was moved to Piazza Marina in 1862. The basin is crowned by a group with the allegory of Abundance. The name comes from the Arabic gharraf, denoting a copious spring.
