The story
A panoramic terrace created in the 17th century on the 16th-century walls, linking Porta Felice to Palazzo Butera and running above the Foro Italico. The name derives from the Latin 'captivae', meaning captives: these were widows, who during mourning could not mix with the fashionable promenade below and walked apart on this upper level.
