The story
Created between 1608 and 1620 to a design by Giulio Lasso at the crossing of the Cassaro and the new Via Maqueda, the square consists of four identical concave façades, each in three tiers: below a fountain with the allegory of a season, in the middle a Spanish sovereign, above the patron saint of the corresponding district. The crossroads divides the old town into its four mandamenti.
