The story
Built between 1490 and 1495 by Matteo Carnilivari for the wealthy merchant Guglielmo Ajutamicristo, it is one of the most important late Gothic palaces in Sicily, with a two-tier loggia in the courtyard. It hosted Charles V in 1535 on his return from the Tunis expedition. Now largely private and used for events; the ground-floor rooms display the 'Pupa del Capo', an Art Nouveau mosaic removed from Palazzo Serenario.
