The story
Built in 1799 to a design by Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia for Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who had taken refuge in Palermo after the proclamation of the Parthenopean Republic. It combines Chinese, Gothic and Egyptian elements in one of Europe's most original exotic buildings. The interiors preserve painted decoration, original furnishings and a 'mathematical table', a device that allowed meals to be served without servants present.
