The story
A late Baroque palace completed in 1784 for the princes of Belmonte and later owned by the Riso barons. Used as Fascist party headquarters, it was bombed in 1943: only the façade remained standing. Reconstruction created modular interior spaces, and since 2008 the palace has housed Sicily's principal contemporary art museum, with a permanent collection and temporary shows.
