The story
Built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries and attributed to Matteo Carnilivari, it is one of the most elegant examples of Catalan Gothic in Sicily: a three-arched porch on a flight of steps, a three-aisled interior with ribbed vaults. The name comes from the chain that, anchored at this point, closed the mouth of the Cala harbour at night.
