The story
The second largest church in the city, rebuilt in the 17th century over a 14th-century Dominican plan. The three-tier façade, completed in 1726, faces a theatrical square with the Column of the Immaculate Conception. Since the 19th century it has been the Pantheon of illustrious Sicilians: those buried here include the chemist Stanislao Cannizzaro, the poet Giovanni Meli, the statesman Francesco Crispi and the magistrate Giovanni Falcone.
