The story
The first Jesuit church in Sicily, begun in 1564 and decorated over almost two centuries. Every internal surface is clad in inlaid polychrome marble, reliefs, intarsia and sculpture: the highest expression of the so-called 'marmi mischi', a technique developed in Palermo between the 17th and 18th centuries. Severely damaged by the bombing of 1943, it has been rebuilt through decades of restoration.
