The story
Built around 1131 by George of Antioch to cross the river Oreto, it is one of the best-preserved medieval bridges in Europe: twelve pointed arches in limestone ashlar, still intact. In 1938 the Oreto was diverted and the bridge was left dry. On 27 May 1860 the clash fought here opened Garibaldi's road into Palermo.
