The story
Founded in 1191 by Matteo d'Aiello, chancellor of the kingdom, and handed over a few years later by Henry VI to the Teutonic Order, hence the name Magione, the order's 'house'. The façade with three tiers of blind arches and the three-aisled interior on reused columns belong to the late Norman period. The cloister, rebuilt after the bombing of 1943, is one of the most secluded spaces in the Kalsa.
